Harper Challenges Mayor Henry in Campaign Mailer

A mailer from Mitch Harper's Campaign

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The gloves are coming off in the race for mayor.

The first volley comes from Republican challenger Mitch Harper.  A mailer hit some Fort Wayne mailboxes Wednesday challenging his democrat opponent Mayor Tom Henry.

A glossy, oversized postcard with a shadowy figure smoking a cigar cast against a night time view of downtown asks “who's running Fort Wayne?”

The other side alleges Henry's campaign has collected donation from a number of businesses that do work for the city, including $92,000 from firms that that received $20 million in city contracts – the majority of those from out of state companies.

The ad ends with the line “let's put an end to Tom Henry's pay to play culture.”

The Henry campaign says they aren't going to change their approach.

We just are just focused on talking to voters about what the mayor has done,” Rob Dible with Henry for Mayor says. “How well things are going in  Fort Wayne.”

They've been meeting with the public for six months and have talked with near 50,000 voters about new jobs, investment in the city and booming downtown.

Dible says it's going to be a focused effort.

Voters want to talk about issues. They want to have campaigns to listen to them on issues. That's what we are doing.”
