Hagerstown to Sell Community Pool

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. (AP): An eastern Indiana town is selling its community swimming pool two years after the pool was shuttered amid declining attendance and rising costs.

The Hagerstown Town Council recently approved a purchase agreement with developer Scott Porter for the Ruth Dutro Pool and its 2-acre plot for $110,000.

Porter was the only bidder during a 60-day auction period for the property in the town about 50 miles east of Indianapolis. The two sides now have 60 days to finalize the deal.

The Dutro Pool was named after local philanthropist Ruth Dutro, who left money in her will for the town and the town's park board. The pool closed in August 2013 after years of declining attendance and rising operating costs that were sapping the town's parks budget.
