Gun Control Activists Lobby Indiana Lawmakers

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana gun control supporters are lobbying the state’s federal lawmakers to support background checks for gun buyers.

Gun control supporters say six months after the Newtown, Conn., school shootings responses in Washington have stalled. Roughly two dozen protesters gathered on the Monon Trail in Indianapolis on Friday and cheered as organizers said U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks and U.S. Sen. Dan Coats need to be pressed to support the checks.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns State Director Peter Luster said supporters need to call their offices every day. He noted lawmakers hold daily calls with staff to see check what issues constituents are fired up about. The Indianapolis protest was part of a national day of events coordinated by the group funded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
