FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A group of Fort Wayne churches is launching a new program to comfort the families of homicide victims.

New Covenant Worship Center has launched an initiative called Meals 4 Healing, which serves hot meals for seven days to families torn apart by a murder.

Pastor Luther Whitfield tells the Journal Gazette he hopes the ministry isn’t needed very often, but in case something happens, he wants those families to know that there are people who care.

Seven other churches, plus Parkview Health, are also partnered with the program, which received praise from Mayor Tom Henry Wednesday. Those churches are Blackhawk Ministries, Hope Community Church, King’s Community Outreach, Pathway Community Church, The Chapel, Trinity English Lutheran Church, and Wallen Baptist Church.
