FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): With construction already buzzing in the background, YMCA officials broke ground on the northeast Fort Wayne YMCA branch Tuesday.

The Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA will be located on St. Joe Center Road just west of Maplecrest Road. It will be a fully accessible facility designed for people with special needs.

That the facility will be similar to the Parkview Y on Dupont and the Jorgensen Y on Aboite Center. That’s according to President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Mary Pastura, who spoke to the Journal-Gazette.

It’ll be 70,000 square foot with two pools, including a warm-water therapy pool. It’ll also feature special changing rooms with beds to aid caretakers. A sensory room for people with autism will also be built. The hallways will be wide enough for wheelchairs and Parkview Health will host an in-house clinic.

The building is scheduled to be open in June 2017.
