Grocery Store To Be Built in Woodburn

WOODBURN, Ind. (WOWO): Woodburn residents won't have to travel far for their groceries in the near future.

That's because the Allen County Plan Commission has approved a 5,500 square foot grocery store that will be an expansion of a popular Fort Wayne business. Dave Hill's Country Meat and Produce will occupy the space on Bull Rapids Road across from the Woodburn Police Department.

Woodburn Mayor Richard Hoeppner tells WOWO News it's something Woodburn residents want. “Grocery stores are hard to maintain with the big Super Walmart and Meijer just 10 miles away, so this is a test of what we can do with fresh produce and meat and accessories.”

Construction is expected to begin in July. An opening date has not been announced.
