Grant Money from the Government?

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Leaders with the Better Business Bureau of Northeast Indiana are warning Hoosiers of a recent scam, involving claims that the government is giving away grant money in the amount of $8,000.

People are receiving phone calls from someone saying they're eligible for the grant money because they filed for bankruptcy or for other common reasons like being a good citizen, paying bills on time, having good credit, not smoking, and even for having a good lawn.

If you have received a call like this, the BBB wants you to know that the government does not give away grants. In fact they are nothing like a lottery, where names are randomly drawn from a hat and given out. There is an application process, where candidates must fill out paperwork, qualify, and be selected among other competing applicants for the same grant money. If you have not completed an application for a government grant, you will not be the recipient of one. Call the BBB if you have questions.
