FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Graduation rates in Allen County and across Indiana are down compared to last year.

East Allen County Schools was the only school system in Allen County that didn’t see a drop. Its graduation rates rose from 84.8 percent in 2014 to 88.9 percent in 2015, according to the Journal-Gazette.

Southwest and Northwest Allen County Schools’ graduation rates stayed about the same.
Fort Wayne Community Schools, Northrop, Snider and Wayne high schools all had graduation rates that were better than the state average, while North Side and South Side high schools were below the average.

Data shows only 88 percent of all Indiana seniors graduated from high school last year, compared to about 90 percent in 2014.

State Superintendent Glenda Ritz said she was “pleased with the progress.” She pointed out that the state’s graduation rate was 78 percent 10 years ago.

Ritz also said there is still work to be done “to address the diverse needs of students” and “to close the achievement gaps between student populations.”
