Governor Mike Pence Hosts Tax Conference

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Governor Mike Pence along with the Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of Revenue, are hosting the Indiana Tax Competitiveness and Simplification Conference at the Indiana Government Center.

Tuesday's conference brings together nearly 200 local and national tax experts and policy makers to focus on ways to create a more competitive business and individual tax climate in Indiana.

This conference is an excellent opportunity to examine our tax structures and find ways to make them simpler and more competitive,” said Governor Pence. “We hope to examine new ideas and proposals that will make our state attractive for new businesses, supportive of our existing businesses, and innovative when it comes to ways to generate new, high-paying jobs for Hoosiers.”

However, House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath from Michigan City also issued a statement about the conference saying he's not impressed. “This symposium is nothing more than a class club meeting of board room insiders, Wall Street apologists, and Nineteenth Century economic theorists. Notably absent from these proceedings is anyone representing working people or working families trying to get into the middle class.”

The conference includes two presentations and seven panels examining the full range of Indiana’s tax structure. The conference will conclude at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday evening.
