INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is hosting a campout for more than 50 children at Fort Harrison State Park as a part of a national effort to boost outdoor recreation.

The two-day campout will be held this Thursday and Friday. Children who participate will fish, ride horses and cook outdoors among other activates. The kids will also go on a Friday morning hike with the Republican governor.

The campout is being held in conjunction with this year’s Great Outdoors Month. State parks officials say the use of TV, computers and electronic devices has contributed to increasingly sedentary lifestyle that can pose health risks. Enjoying the outdoors is seen as an antidote to that.

Pence says Indiana has many natural treasures that should be explored.
