INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Authorities say a 15-year-old girl whose badly burned body was found dumped in an Indianapolis backyard was a student at Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center on the city's far west side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say the name of the girl and how she died might be released following an autopsy Tuesday. They say a man walking his dog found the body Sunday afternoon in his backyard on the city's near northwest side.
Detectives believe the victim was killed elsewhere and brought to that location. Television news footage showed scorch marks in the yard.
Wayne Township Metropolitan School District Superintendent Jeff Butts sent a message on Twitter saying “we are heartbroken to learn'' the victim was one of the district's students. He says counselors would be available for students and staff.
