Girl Scouts to Collect Worn US flags, Hand Out New Ones

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Girl Scout troops in central Indiana are on a mission to provide dozens of people with crisp new American flags to replace their tattered versions of Old Glory.

The (Columbus) Republic reports (http://bit.ly/1FEXXsP ) that Girl Scouts of Central Indiana will collect worn-out U.S. flags before Saturday's 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis.

The first 50 people who bring a tattered, full-sized American flag will receive a new flag during Saturday's giveaway on the top of the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial.

Flags that are collected will be retired during ceremonies this summer at Girl Scout camps throughout central Indiana.
