FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Parts of downtown Fort Wayne were closed Monday evening after a gas line was cut.
Around 4:22 p.m. crews arrived to the 900 block of Webster St. between Wayne and Berry. Firefighters could smell gas and determined construction crews cut a 2″ gas line. It was at that time fire crews started to evacuate 229 Berry St. along with the surrounding construction site and structures as a precautionary measure.
During this time, Barry St. at Harrison St., along with Harrison St. between Wayne St. and Main St. were closed. It wasn't until 5:38 p.m. that the leak was under control by Nipsco and roads were eventually reopened.
