Gary Council Member Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

GARY, Ind. (AP) _ A Gary city council member has pleaded guilty to tax evasion, admitting she has not filed an income tax return since 1991.
 
  Federal prosecutors alleged Marilyn Krusas had not only failed to file returns, but had attempted to conceal an inheritance of $232,000. She agreed to plead guilty as part of a plea agreement filed Monday in U.S. District Court.
 
  She faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Federal prosecutors agreed not to seek a prison term longer than recommended under federal sentencing guidelines. The agreement also calls for whatever inheritance money is left to be turned over to the federal government within a week of her plea hearing. 
 
  Krusas has been a city council member since 2000.
