FWFD to Kick Off Smoke Detector Blitz

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Fire Department will go door-to-door Saturday afternoon conducting their Smoke Detector Blitz. Crews will be checking and installing smoke detectors in statistically high fire risk neighborhoods.

Crews from stations 2, 9, 10, 11, and 12 will be out in their territories. Zip codes included are 46802; 46803; 46806; 46805; and 46806.

“We have had great success with this program,” says Fire Education and Prevention Captain Dave Meadows. “By targeting neighborhoods whose fire occurrence is statistically high, we are able to check existing detectors to make sure they are in working order, or install these life saving devices where none are found.”

The Smoke Detector Blitz is part of the Fort Wayne Fire Department's participation in this year's National Fire Prevention Week. The blitz will take place from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon.

For those in need of smoke detectors, but are not included in this scheduled neighborhood blitz campaign, visit the FWFD website at www.fortwaynefiredepartment.org and click on Smoke Detector Program or call 260.427.1478 for further information.
