FWCS Updates Bus List, Eliminating Almost 9,700 Students

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Nearly 9,700 students will not be eligible for bus transportation during the 2015-2016 school year at Fort Wayne Community Schools.

According to the Journal Gazette, the FWCS board recently updated their routes for next fall, eliminating the students who are not eligible for transportation next year.

FWCS Chief of Operations Chris Cammack told the Journal Gazette that about 160 to 170 families will consider using the Y Care option for transportation. However, that option is only available for the students at nine schools within the FWCS system.

Cammack added that 2,200 students were accepted into special programs or magnet programs through the FWCS lottery. Students who were accepted into the special choice programs will continue to receive transportation if they live outside the school's no-transportation zone, according to FWCS spokeswoman Krista Stockman.

The number of students transported by school buses is expected to drop from 21,000 this year to 13,000 students next year due to the transportation changes.
