FWCS Looking to Explain ISTEP Scores

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The new ISTEP standards for schools are confusing a lot of people.

The Fort Wayne Community Schools board held a work session Monday to go over all of the changes and the latest on a new formula the state will use to grade schools in the wake of a controversial ISTEP test that had its results delayed for months. Superintendent Wendy Robinson told the Journal Gazette the new formula, which sorts students into eight categories, is biased against poverty.

Nearly half of FWCS schools were listed as “failing” after the latest test, and administrators say explaining that to parents will be complicated.
