FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Fort Wayne Community Schools is changing the way students read novels in English classes.

High School English will no longer require students to read novels from cover to cover, according to our partners in news at ABC 21. Instead, teachers are now assigning excerpts to read.

Some parents brought up issues with the change during last night’s school board meeting, stating they’re concerned the new curriculum won’t properly prepare students for life after graduation.

Parents also voiced issues with the school district, stating they’re worried the district won’t act on their feedback until the following school year.

Superintendent Wendy Robinson says she welcomes more parent feedback, but explains it’s only five weeks into the new school year and the new curriculum should be given a chance.

Dear children, You are too stupid to be able to read a book, and we are too smart to listen to parents. Sincerely, The State
