FW Woman Faces Neglect Charge in Frostbite Case

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A Fort Wayne woman faces a neglect charge for frostbite injuries her 5-year-old son suffered when he got stuck in heavy snow during a trek home in bitter cold temperatures.

Twenty-five-year-old Marquisha N. Whitten was charged with a preliminary count of neglect of a dependent. She's being held at the Allen County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Court records say Whitten spent Monday night drinking at a residence before she and her son began walking home.

Whitten lost her apartment keys during the trek and began looking for them.

Court records say Whitten's son then fell in the heavy snow and couldn't get up, exposing him to minus 30-degree wind chills for 10 minutes. He suffered frostbite to his hands and feet.
