FW Plan Commission OKs Wallen Road Retiree Housing Plan

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) — The Fort Wayne Plan Commission approved a $9.2 million retiree residence despite one vote in opposition of the development.

Performance Property Group will build a 50-unit subdivision on Wallen Road east of Coldwater. Waters Park Villas will feature two- and three-bedroom homes ranging up to 1,550 sq. ft. At costs of $170,000 to $190,000, the homes would also include two car garages and the landscape would feature a 2 acre-pond with dual fountains, a gazebo and maintenance-free living.

According to our partner in news, The Journal Gazette, the president of Performance Property, Chris Bartkus said the senior citizen market is a good target for these homes since census data shows that baby boomers make up at least 12% of the population in Allen County. He added that other homebuyers are welcome in Waters Park Villas.

Approximately 20 neighbors attended the public hearing last week and had their concerns about traffic safety, location in a hilly area, disruption to wildlife and stormwater drainage addressed and mostly voiced support.

Panel member Judi Wire was the one voice in opposition as she voiced major concerns about past floodplain problems.
