FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Some improvements around the Grand Wayne Center in downtown Fort Wayne got the go-ahead from the Allen County-Fort Wayne Capital Improvement Board Thursday.

The Board approved spending up to $250,000 on improvements that include a covered connection from the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory to the Embassy Theatre, according to the Journal Gazette.

The project also offers a climate-controlled indoor option for people visiting the Grand Wayne Center or the Hilton and Marriott hotels downtown better access to downtown shopping and events.

However, the board also tabled a request for $4.25-million in grant money for a series of quality-of-life improvements in small eastern Allen County communities. The request was from the NewAllen Alliance as part of an application for the Indiana Stellar Communities program. Some on the board questioned the idea of using money from the food and beverage tax on the proposal.
