LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) _ Several firefighters involved with the rescue of a 6-year-old Illinois boy who was buried in 11 feet of sand for hours at a northwestern Indiana dune have started an effort to raise money to help his family.
 
  The Post-Tribune reports the non-profit community group Unity Foundation of LaPorte County has begun raising money for Nathan Woessner's family. The boy is expected to be in the University of Chicago Medical Center's pediatric intensive care unit for 10 to 14 days.
 
  Dr. Tracy Koogler said Monday that he is sedated and on a ventilator, but should be removed from it by the end of the week. Nathan was climbing the Mount Baldy dune in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore when he became trapped Friday.
