FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Elkhart, LaGrange and Steuben counties until 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Counties in southern Michigan also are included in that advisory. The National Weather Service says a wintery mix of freezing rain and snow will develop and turn into snow by the mid afternoon. A total of 2 to 4 inches of snow are possible by the late evening.
They also warn ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch.
Fort Wayne has a Hazardous Weather Outlook, with a chance of freezing rain and light ice accumulations north of US 30. Snow accumulations will be less than an inch, but areas north of US 30 could see 1 to 3 inches.
Meanwhile the Indiana Department of Transportation urges drivers to monitor forecasts and use caution traveling. They say INDOT employees are on call to plow interstates, U.S. highways and state routes.
Ice can be the most difficult road conditions for drivers to navigate and plow crews to treat because four-wheel-drive vehicles and large trucks are no match if all tires are on ice. “Black ice” or “slick spots” can also be hard for drivers to distinguish from wet pavement.

Road conditions are defined as: (1) Gray: Good, the road is clear (2) Blue: Fair, speed is reduced due to isolated patches of snow and ice, and (3) Violet: Difficult or hazardous, speed is reduced due to snow and/or ice covered pavement
