Free Tax Help for Young People

MONROEVILLE, Ind. (WOWO):  Cornerstone Youth Center bookkeeper Marlene DeKoninck will provide free tax preparation and filing assistance for people age 21 and under Thursday, Feb. 19 at the center.

Scheduled for 4:30 to 7: 30 p.m., the event is designed to help young people who will have relatively simple returns. Cornerstone will provide the printed return forms and the computers needed to file returns electronically that evening.

Youth should bring their W-2s, any additional income statements such as bank interest or investment income, Social Security card and photo ID (driver’s license or school ID photo). In addition, students should bring their checking account routing and account number for direct deposit of their refunds.

DeKoninck has more than 30 years of experience in preparing individual income taxes for farmers, small business owners and investment property owners in Southeast Allen County and Northern Adams County with clients extending to the East and South coasts. She undergoes continuing education through Purdue University to stay abreast of current tax law.
