FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It's cold outside, even for cats.

Local animal rescues have free shelters available for stray cats, according to our partners in news at 21Alive.

There are 150 shelters made by volunteers from donated materials such as large plastic totes, Styrofoam and duct tape.

Anybody who has a stray cat around their property can pick up a shelter at any of these locations:

Allen County SPCA — 4914 Hanna St., Fort Wayne (260) 744-0454
Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control — 3020 Hillegas Road, Fort Wayne
(260) 427-1244
H.O.P.E. for Animals — 1333 Maycrest Drive, Fort Wayne
 (260) 420-7729

Each rescue has 50 homes, which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Allen County has about 16,000 free-roaming cats.
