FRANKTON, Ind. (AP): A group of Indiana eighth-graders isn't letting the federal government's shutdown spoil a field trip to the nation's capital.
Students from Frankton raised the money for the trip to Washington, D.C., last year. Trip coordinator Theresa Edwards says she has been busy rescheduling events to adjust for the shutdown.
Edwards says the students will still visit Gettysburg National Park even though it's closed. She's arranged for a tour guide who isn't a federal employee to show the class the major battlefield landmarks.
Students also will take a night tour of the capital and visit sites including the National Cathedral, Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon during this week's trip. They also plan to meet with U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks.
