FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Nearly one-hundred vehicles were part of a community-wide farewell to a fallen firefighter.

A funeral procession took place Friday afternoon, for the late Nate Mills, the Fort Wayne firefighter who lost his fight with cancer over the weekend. 42-year-old Mills had served Fort Wayne since 2006.

He's being remembered for his “grace, dignity and courage.”  Those are the words of Fort Wayne Fire Chief Eric Lahey. The department announced Mills' passing on Sunday.

In late 2012 Mills was diagnosed with a re-occurrence of melanoma, a cancer that first appeared in 2000.

Friday's procession route started in Huntington, went through Wells county and finally went into downtown Fort Wayne, and along the way, community members giving tribute to a public servant.
