Fort Wayne Residents Rocked by Series of Shootings

Residents in a northeastern Indiana city are rallying to try to find a way to curb gun violence that has killed a dozen people this year.

About 300 people turned out for Friday night’s meeting sponsored by the Fort Wayne Urban League, motivated by a series of shootings during the past week that included the death of a woman who was pulled off a city bus and shot by her ex-boyfriend.

Twelve local deaths this year have been ruled homicides. Two resulted from police shootings and one was a victim who was injured in a 1980 shooting.

Among those attending was Charlotte Richardson, whose son was shot and killed in 2010, and Richard Ridley, who lives two doors down from the bus shooting victim.

More meetings are planned.
