Fort Wayne Ranks High In Affordability

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne has been ranked as one of the top places in the country for affordability.

The editors at Livability.com looked at the cost of living for health care, food, housing and transportation data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to rank the Best Affordable Places To Live in 2015. In their research, one city per state was ranked and Fort Wayne is the 6th best city on the list.

Round Rock, Texas was the top city on the list, followed by Dayton, Ohio, Lawton, Oklahoma, Lansing, Michigan and Appleton Wisconsin. They say Fort Wayne offers low living expenses and benefits from Indiana's flat-rate individual income tax rate of 3.4% along with art and cultural offerings and annual events with plenty to do.

“With cities, as with anything, there’s a bit of ‘you get what you pay for,’” says Livability editor, Matt Carmichael. “Therefore, it was important for us to strike a balance and find cities that are both affordable and livable.”
