Fort Wayne Officer Shoots Pit Bull Tuesday Morning

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne police officer had to shoot a pitbull Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened in the southeast side of Fort Wayne on Winter Street, which is near the intersection of South Anthony and Capitol. 

Officers with Animal Care and Control called for backup afer two pitbulls reportedly got aggressive with residents and school children waiting for the school bus, according to our partners in news at 21Alive. 

One of the dogs charged at a police officer that responded, which caused the officer to shoot the dog in self-defense. 

The pit bull is wounded and being evaluated to see whether it should be euthanized. The other dog was taken in by Animal Care and Control.
