FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): We all know Fort Wayne residents know how to work hard — and we know how to play hard too.

For the seventh time, KaBoom! named Fort Wayne a 2016 Playful City USA, according to the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation.

KaBoom! is a national non-profit that is dedicated to making kids more active.

Fort Wayne was recognized for making it easy for kids to get balanced and active play. Fort Wayne Park and Recreation Department added FootGolf and Ga Ga Pits to some of its 86 parks in the last two years.

Groups have also volunteered to be a part of Adopt-a-Playground, which has added 20 playgrounds to the city.

“Fort Wayne is moving in the right direction by encouraging healthy and active lifestyles. Being a Playful City USA demonstrates our community’s commitment to being a leader in providing world-class amenities for the public to enjoy,” Mayor Tom Henry said.

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department said it’s always looking for new ways to provide positive opportunities for fun.

Fort Wayne is one of the 257 communities recognized by the KaBoom! organization.
