Fort Wayne named one of the best cities for jobs in report

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s array of available jobs is getting national recognition.

Fort Wayne came in 24th on a list of 50 cities adding the most jobs published by 24/7 Wall St. 

The report shows that Fort Wayne has 208,888 jobs as of June 2016, which is an 11.9 percent increase from the jobs it had in June 2012.

“I think it’s great news for Fort Wayne,” Fort Wayne spokesman John Perlich said. “I think it demonstrates that strong leadership and innovative approaches are working. It’s making it much more attractive for businesses and families to want to invest in our community.”

Elkhart-Goshen topped Indiana metro areas at 10th, the Indianapolis metro area came in at 17th and Columbus came in at 19th. Other Indiana cities include Kokomo right behind Fort Wayne at 25th, the Lafayette area at 30th and South Bend-Mishawaka at 46th.

Overall, the United States has created more than 10 million jobs in the last four years. Unemployment has fallen 3.3 percent to 4.9 percent, which is the lowest in nearly a decade.
