FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for trying to beat a woman to death.

29-year-old Brent Browning received the sentence in Allen Superior Court Monday, according to the News-Sentinel. Because his attempted murder charge is a Level 1 felony, Browning is required to serve 75 percent, or 15 years, of his sentence.

Browning was arrested on Jan. 14 following the early morning attack. Court documents say the woman he attacked had to be “rushed to surgery”.

Browning admitted to police that he “snapped and cut her” and that he was sorry for what he did.

Aggravated battery, domestic battery, and battery charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
