Fort Wayne man charged with attempted armed robbery

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man was charged with two felonies after police say he tried to rob a gas station with a with a loaded gun.

Willie L. Collins, 24, was charged with attempted robbery, a level 3 felony, and carrying a handgun without a license, a level 5 felony, according to the News-Sentinel. If convicted of both crimes, Collins could spend up to 22 years in prison.

Police say Collins went into a Phillips 66 gas station armed with a loaded gun on May 31. He then pointed the gun at an employee and demanded money. The worker ran behind protective glass and told Collins he was calling police, and Collins left.
Police were able to identify Collins on the surveillance camera.
