Fort Wayne Man Accused of Stomping Rabbit to Death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A Fort Wayne man has been arrested after police say he stomped his children's pet rabbit to death.

Police say 25-year-old Austin J. Witek killed the rabbit and smashed an aquarium during an argument with his fiance.

The Journal Gazette reports that Witek was taken to Allen County Jail, where he faces preliminarily charges of felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor interfering with the reporting of a crime. There was no answer at the jail Tuesday when The Associated Press called seeking additional information.

The woman told police he took a phone out of her hand when she tried to call police.

Witek allegedly told officers he snapped when she began leaving their home with the children.

Animal Control officers saved some of the fish.
