FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The City of Fort Wayne is honoring some of their own who are deployed in the military.

Ever since 2014, Fort Wayne has put up Blue Star Banners to recognize residents and government employees that are deployed in the military. On Wednesday, Blue Star Banners for five service members were unveiled:

  • Lieutenant Christopher T. Gerber, U.S. Navy
  • Lieutenant Christopher M. Jozwiak, U.S. Navy
  • Petty Officer Brandon Parrish, U.S. Navy
  • Petty Officer Chase Poling, U.S. Navy
  • Lance Corporal Andrew Waikel, U.S. Marine Corps

If there’s someone you feel deserves to be honored with a Blue Star Banner, complete an application. Once the applications are reviewed, banners will be made and displayed on light poles along West Jefferson Boulevard from the Time Corners area to Swinney Park. Banners will be displayed through November and then removed during the winter months.

If interested in making a donation to the Blue Star Banner program by being a sponsor may contact Karen Richards, Mayor’s Office, 260-427-2146 and karen.richards@cityoffortwayne.org.
