FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): More business owners will get the chance to spruce up the outside of their buildings thanks to the Commercial Facade Grant Program.

The city of Fort Wayne is extending the deadline for 2017 applications an extra two weeks because of an increased interest into the program.  The applications are now due at 5 p.m. Dec. 29, according to the city of Fort Wayne.

Completed applications can be dropped off at the city’s Community Development offices at Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St., suite 320.

Mayor Tom Henry introduced the program in an effort to help local businesses thrive and expand in the heart of the city. The grant money can be used to make improvements to commercial buildings. Enhancements can include new siding, architectural features, signage, lighting, awnings, parking improvements and decorative fencing.

Applicants must provide a dollar-to-dollar match to receive the grant. Since the inception of the project, 84 projects have been completed.
