Fort Wayne doc surrenders license for three years

INDIANPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): An embattled Fort Wayne OB-GYN who had relationships with at least three patients is giving up his medical license for three years, and will pay a $3,000 fine.

The Journal Gazette reports those are the terms of a settlement Dr. Cortney Schwartz made with the Indiana Medical Licensing Board Thursday, in the conclusion of an ongoing saga that started when he was suspended by Lutheran Health Network in October, and he self-reported the sexual and emotional relationships last November.

In one of those cases, Schwartz admitted to having sex with a patient he was treating for infertility, apparently getting her pregnant, then performing an “invasive” procedure on her without disclosing it and allegedly giving her prescriptions that could induce an abortion.

Schwartz must also complete a number of medical education credits and get a psychological assessment before petitioning for his license to be reinstated.
