FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Over the past few days, seven people have been killed in two separate incidents in Fort Wayne: one stabbing, and one shooting. A Fort Wayne City Councilman is now speaking out against the violence.

Councilman Geoff Paddock says anytime there’s a shooting like the one that took three lives Tuesday morning at the Sports and Spirits bar on East Wayne Street, it’s a tragedy, but he’s particularly bothered that this shooting happened in the middle of an “active and vibrant neighborhood.”

“It was particularly touching to me, because there are a lot of folks who have been working with the city and the private sector to make improvements there,” he tells WOWO news. “The violence has certainly been an issue that has been more prominent in the past few weeks. We have law enforcement here that’s second to none, and they are working on those issues.”

He adds that the progress made to reinvigorate the East Central and Memorial Park neighborhoods “won’t be impeded” by the violence.
