INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A contractor has agreed to repave part of a northern Indiana highway that the state transportation department says is crumbling years earlier than expected.

The highway agency says Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne agreed to resurface a 3-mile stretch of Indiana 25 near Logansport. The deal comes after officials said last year the roadway completed by the company in 2012 was falling apart because of asphalt that didn’t meet state specifications.

Agency spokesman Scott Manning tells The Indianapolis Star that the department is satisfied the road will be repaired without legal action.

Brooks Construction says it’s confident that drivers will be proud of the finished highway.

The highway department is asking another contractor to resurface recently completed road projects in or near Bloomington, Seymour, Richmond and North Vernon.
