FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The Fort Wayne City Council plans to discuss the annexation of a neighborhood just outside the city limits in a council meeting Tuesday.

In May, more than half of the property owners living in the unincorporated portion of the La Cabreah neighborhood off Dupont Road petitioned for it to be annexed.

The annexation would bring 174 residential properties and about 105 acres inside the city limits.

Then last month, a number of residents who signed the petition said they were duped.

Neighbors said they were told their emergency services’ response time would be better, and property taxes would stay the same. But they later learned this would not necessarily be the case.

The ordinance to annex the Allen County portion of La Cabreah is now on Tuesday’s Council agenda, according to our partners in news at ABC 21.

The ordinance lays out the time it would take for the annexation to take full effect, with the neighborhood becoming an official part of the city on January 1, 2020.

If the Council votes for the annexation, it could begin later this month.

The Council meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Citizens Square, Room 30.
