FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne City Council is set to consider a vehicle tax that will be used to maintain city roads.

The Council will look at an ordinance tomorrow night that’s designed to take advantage of new state laws that let local governments impose their own wheel taxes, according to the News-Sentinel.

Fees will range from $25 to $40 a year, starting in 2017, and would include passenger cars, motorcycles, trucks weighing 11,000 pounds or less, scooters and mopeds.

Councilman John Crawford says without the ordinance, which would bring in about $6.7-million annually, the City could fall behind on road maintenance.

Because the obvious fix for any money shortage anymore is to simply levy more taxes on the people. How about the city council look at where their own excess fat can be trimmed and quit dipping into the pockets of the people every time they come up short? Twenty five dollars may not seem like much to the council members, but in a multiple vehicle household or lower income households, that $25 can add up quick considering Indiana’s method of making all your vehicle registrations due at the same time.
