Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control Says Wild Animals are Not Pets

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The City of Fort Wayne is reminding residents about the city ordinance that prohits residents from owning wildlife.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is prevented from regulating more than 30 wild animals under a recent court ruling that stripped its authority over legally owned creatures.

The ruling is part of a lawsuit over whether DNR could regulate or ban the hunting of captive deer. The DNR previously had issued special permits to people who owned wild animals as pets.

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control also reminds all area residents that wildlife is considered an immediate public safety hazard if it is inside your living space and city residents are advised to contact FWACC: 260-427-1244 option 1.

If you really think a baby or wild animal is in trouble, call FWACC to ask for advice 427-1244, or check our website at www.fwacc.org for a list of local wildlife companies that are licensed. Do not bring it home.
