BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): Former Indiana University chancellor Sharon Brehm says she didn't want to accept that she was having memory troubles when she first noticed problems in 2010.

Now, she hopes her acceptance and willingness to talk about her Alzheimer's disease will help others overcome the stigma associated with it.

The 68-year-old Brehm says she can no longer drive a car and needs help balancing her checkbook. She's getting help from senior home care service agency in Bloomington.

Brehm was IU's Bloomington chancellor for two and a half years before stepping down in 2003. She'll be talking about her life with the disease before Saturday's “Walk to End Alzheimer's'' event at Bryan Park in Bloomington.
