Foreclosure prevention assistance now available from Indiana Legal Services

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Homeowners facing foreclosure now can get a helping hand.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller announced Tuesday that Indiana Legal Services is receiving a $300,000 grant to help its foreclosure prevention services as well as debt counseling programs.

The $300,000 comes from Indiana’s portion of a multi-state settlement with Chase Bank over alleged unlawful debt collection practices.

Speaking at Indiana Tech Law School in Fort Wayne, Zoeller also says the grant will establish a partnership between ILS and the law school to get students experience with low-income residents.

Zoeller notes that the Attorney General’s office has received 50 complaints of foreclosure consulting fraud since January 2014. He hopes this program will help put a stop to that.
