Flooding Prompts Disaster Declaration in Huntington County

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): As summer rains continue to push flood waters higher and punish Huntington County, local leaders there have declared it a disaster emergency.

This comes as local officials say they expect more damage to be uncovered after water recedes.

Commissioners are urging residents to report additional damage to the county’s emergency management by email at hcema@huntington.in.us. or by calling 260.358.4870

Residents who need help may call United Way, at 211 for food, water and help relocating.

Disaster relief efforts are also focused on crops. The Huntington Farm Service Agency is working to secure a Disaster Declaration.

If approved, that designation means at least 30 percent of crops or one crop has been lost. To new crop loss or report additional crop loss, please contact the Farm Service Agency at: 260-356-6816 or visit http://www.fsa.usda.gov for more information.
