Flood Warning Issued for Tippecanoe, St. Joe Rivers

SYRACUSE, Ind. (WOWO): Flood warnings have been declared for the portions of Northern Indiana and Northwest Ohio.

A warning has been issued for the following rivers in our listening area:

*The St. Joseph River in Allen, DeKalb in Indiana and Defiance County in Ohio.

*The Tippecanoe River in Kosciusko County in our listening area.

You are urged to avoid flooded areas, including roadways and do not let children come in contact with flood waters.

As temperatures warm up its going to create snow melt and its going to strain our area water ways.

Flooding is a concern in other areas as well. A check of the rivers in Allen County show a number of spots above or close to flood stage.

That's going to make it interesting when the temperatures hit the forties this Friday and Saturday.

The Maumee River near New Haven is already at 19.8 feet, that's about three feet above flood stage. The St. Joseph River in Fort Wayne is at 12.4 feet, flood stage is at 12 feet. We are also watching the St. Mary's in Decatur where it was two and a half  feet from flood stage.  You can track flood levels for area rivers in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan by clicking here.
