FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The trial of a man accused of murder in 1993 started on Monday.

55-year-old Richard Niemeyer was charged with the murder of 28-year-old Kevin Weisenburger in September 2015. DNA evidence about 22 years after the fact linked Niemeyer to the murder, according to 21Alive.

Weisenburger was found with several blows to his head inside his apartment in 1993.

Evidence collected from the scene in 2014 was sent to an Indiana State Police lab, and those items were linked to Niemeyer last year. Niemeyer denied being in the apartment or knowing the victim.

Allen Superior Court is planning on a four day trial.
