Firefighters Battle Second Fort Wayne Apartment Fire of Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne firefighters were busy with their second apartment fire of the weekend early Sunday morning.

Just after midnight, a fire broke out at an apartment building at Chapel Oaks Apartments on Oaklawn Court east of Hanna Street. The fire started in the bedroom of one apartment and spread via the attic to bedrooms next door.

Three adults and seven children were able to escape before the fire department arrived. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 23 minutes.

Both apartments had fire, water, and smoke damage, with one apartment suffering more fire damage than the other. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
