Fire Destroys Businesses in Loogootee

LOOGOOTEE, Ind. (AP) – A large fire has destroyed some businesses on a southern Indiana community's downtown square.

Officials say the fire broke out about 10 a.m. Wednesday at a T-shirt shop in the Martin County city of Loogootee.

The Herald of Jasper and WTHI-TV report the fire spread to a flower ship and a beauty salon. Heavy flames and dark smoke were rising high from the two-story brick building as crews worked to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were immediately reported.

Police closed U.S. 231 through the community about 60 miles northeast of Evansville because of the fire.
